The splendid TENUTA GATTO vineyards extend across the hills of Larderia (ME), 400 meters above sea level. The estate faces south, with approximately forty gently curving terraces averaging 1.5 meters in height. The espalier system, with spurred cordon, was chosen to take advantage of the positive influence of the climate, particularly the sun's exposure and the winds from both the Mistral and the currents from the Strait of Messina. The dry-stone walls of the terraces also contribute to this benefit, as the material used is stone, which absorbs heat during the hottest hours of the day and releases it at night. Farming is based on the use of natural organic fertilizers (earthworm humus), minimizing the use of chemical treatments, and performing green pruning, thus eliminating excess bunches and shoots, to limit pest attacks and improve quality. Due to the difficulty of moving machinery, the work is done manually and by the family, thus making it a heroic viticulture. Furthermore, each individual vine is meticulously cared for so that it can fully express its potential, producing fine wines produced in a limited number of bottles annually.
